<abstract>The streams were created from the 1:24,000 scale National Hydrography Dataset (NHD). There NHD layer contains many route features. The attributes for this layer are a subset of the drain, route and route features. StreamsNHD is a line coverage and was created as a more user friendly version of the NHD layer. Edits were made to the NHD layer to fill in gaps that were found on major streams within the region. The edits were made by appending line segment to the NHD layer from the previous SANDAG streams coverage. Edits are indicated by a con_id equal to 9999999xx with xx being integers 0 to 9. The previous SANDAG streams coverage was produced through heads-up digitizing over digital orthorectified photography. An item, majstrms, has been added to the coverage to denote which streams are considered major drainages.</abstract>
<purpose>Description from USGS: The National Hydrography Dataset NHD is a comprehensive set of digital spatial data that contains information about surface water features such as lakes, ponds, streams, rivers, springs, and wells. Within the NHD, surface water features are combined to form “reaches”, which provide the framework for linking water-related data to the NHD surface water drainage network. These linkages enable the analysis and display of these water-related data in upstream and downstream order. </purpose>
